In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.
The Mufti of Saudi Arabia, Shaykh Abdul Aziz Aal-Ash Shaykh (hafidahullaah) gave some advice regarding the Eid prayer during the lockdown and curfews preventing people from performing the Eid Prayer outside or in the mosques.
He said that as for the Eid prayer, if the current situation continues and it is not possible to establish the prayer in the Musallaaat [i.e. the open places designated for the Eed prayers] or the designated mosques, then indeed the prayer is performed in the homes with no khutbah after it. That is because if it is recommended for the one who misses the Eed prayer to make it up if he wishes to do so [NB: there is a difference of opinion regarding this, however this is the position of the Shaykh (hafidahullah)], then it is more worthy [or more so] that performing the prayer is legislated for those in whose countries it is not being established, because the establishment of this Islamic symbol is carried out based on one’s ability.
